AS IF IN A DREAM 2024 / video / color / 8:05 min. ‘As if in a Dream’ is a short film showing life in a temple in Yamaguchi, Japan, inspired by the daily recurring rhythm and tasks which hold their own quiet beauty. Sasaki Ritsuko, a 95-year-old woman, lives in the temple, under the care of the head monk. Although she can no longer walk upright, she continues to take part in daily routines by cleaning the floor every morning. Sitting on the ground, she pushes herself forward with her hands, following the same path each day. Living alongside someone of an older age shapes the pace of life in the temple, creating steady, recurring patterns and routines that become meaningful over time. On the island, some people hold a deep belief that everything around us carries a spiritual essence or energy. Mountains, rivers, places, animals, people, and even inanimate objects are thought to possess a soul. This soul is believed to grow stronger when a deep attachment forms to the object or being. She uses the camera as a transformative tool for exploring different layers. “A man sets out to draw the world. As the years go by, he draws a space with images of provinces, kingdoms, mountains, bays, ships, islands, fishes, rooms, instruments, stars, horses, and individuals. A short time before he dies, he discovers that the patient labyrinth of lines traces the lineaments of his own face.” Jorge L. Borges. Anna was born in 1985 in Hoorn, right at the Lake IJssel, in the northwest of the Netherlands. After an academic studies in psychology she continued studying art. MOVING THROUGH 2021 / photobook / 28 pages Available at Motto Berlin . The evenings are all about waiting for the blue. Indigo of the night. Slowly the details of the day dissappear. Seeing the salty eyelashes of my friend seems like a distant memory. Maybe at the end of the day it was all not so important. Just moments. Just being here, no coming no going. Watching, feeling the life MOVING THROUGH. Crazy blue.
